Marketing Ideas to Promote Your Board Book.

Updated: Jan 23, 2023

Promoting your brand new board book is an important part of the publishing process.... but how do you actually get your book in front of readers??

I've learned a lot about book marketing since publishing the Lovely Haze of Baby Days in 2021.

After selling more than 1500 copies, I know how important it is to find your ideal readers.

SO, I've assembled a few ideas below to get you started.

FREE ways to market your self-published board book include:

  • Leverage social media. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Goodreads allow you to build a following and share updates about your board book. Be on the lookout for relevant hashtags and accounts focused on content for parents with young children.

  • Host a live book event. This can be in-person or online, and can include a reading, Q&A, and book signing. Your local library even may allow you to read for a Mommy & Me timeslot!

  • Get reviews & leverage new audiences. Reach out to book bloggers and reviewers to request a review. Positive reviews can help increase the visibility and credibility for your book while reaching new audiences.

  • Create a website or blog dedicated to your book. Use it to share information about the book, post updates, and connect with readers.

  • Utilize podcasts and webinars to reach potential readers. You can reach a wider audience and create a more personal connection with potential readers by sharing your story and discussing your book.

  • Create a book trailer and share it EVERYWHERE. A book trailer can be a great way to give readers a sneak peek of your book.

  • Utilize Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) Select program to offer your ebook for free for a limited period of time & can help increase visibility and sales.

  • Hit the pavement, and connect in person with local businesses or organizations that are a good fit for your book. Where do new parents hang out in your community? Who sells products for young children? Are there any small businesses in your area that would appreciate your book topic?

Whatever the strategy, there are numerous ways to market your board book in a style that suits YOU and gets your book sold to your perfect readers.

... but my BEST advice? Get creative + be present where your perfect customers are hanging out.

For example, have you ever thought about organizing a Virtual Book Tour? Watch this interview to hear how I strategically generated buzz and kept the momentum going after my Kickstarter campaign and successful book launch. #books#authortube#booktour
